Background of the study
This study evaluates the translation accuracy of Yoruba language versions of international literature, an essential factor in promoting cross-cultural understanding and literary appreciation. With globalization, the demand for translating international texts into Yoruba has grown, enabling readers to access global narratives in their native language (Adebayo, 2023). However, achieving accuracy in translation involves more than mere word-for-word conversion; it requires the preservation of stylistic, cultural, and contextual elements inherent in the original work. The study investigates various translation methodologies used to render international literature into Yoruba by comparing translated texts with their source material. Data is collected through textual analyses, translator interviews, and reader surveys to assess factors such as lexical choice, cultural adaptation, and narrative coherence. The research highlights challenges such as the loss of nuanced meaning, cultural misinterpretation, and the difficulty of conveying foreign literary styles. By evaluating these factors, the study aims to propose standardized guidelines for improving translation accuracy in Yoruba versions of international literature, thereby enhancing literary quality and cultural exchange (Adebayo, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Despite the increasing availability of Yoruba translations of international literature, concerns persist regarding the accuracy and fidelity of these translations (Adebayo, 2023). Inadequate preservation of cultural nuances, stylistic inconsistencies, and the tendency towards overly literal translations have resulted in versions that may not fully capture the essence of the original texts. These shortcomings can affect reader comprehension and diminish the impact of the literature. The study seeks to identify the specific challenges in current translation practices and evaluate their effect on the quality of Yoruba literary renditions. Addressing these issues is critical for ensuring that translated works remain true to their source while resonating with Yoruba-speaking audiences (Adebayo, 2023).

Objectives of the study:

To evaluate the accuracy of Yoruba translations of international literature.

To identify challenges in preserving cultural and literary nuances.

To recommend guidelines for improving translation practices.

Research questions:

How accurate are current Yoruba translations of international literature?

What challenges do translators face in preserving the original text's nuances?

What measures can improve translation fidelity and literary quality?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it critically evaluates translation accuracy in Yoruba versions of international literature, offering insights that can enhance cross-cultural literary exchanges and preserve the integrity of both source and translated texts. The findings will benefit translators, publishers, and readers by promoting higher standards in literary translation (Adebayo, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to evaluating Yoruba translations of selected international literary works, focusing on textual analysis and translator interviews.

Definitions of terms:

Translation accuracy: The extent to which a translated text faithfully reproduces the source material.

Literary translation: The art of translating texts while preserving artistic and cultural elements.

Cultural adaptation: The process of modifying content to suit the target audience’s cultural context.
